Abuelita

Narcisso's abuela died late Tuesday night in Ocala, Florida. He was there, along with all his family. I was back in here in Los Angeles, since our finances are in the pits right now and I couldn't afford to make the trip. She was a fiesty, beautiful woman who had a long, great and sometimes trying life. I'm sorry that I never met her, but I'm grateful for the stories Narcisso has shared with me. I'm also deeply struck by how much his family accepts me, when my side has such a difficult time with the concept and reality of us. Doesn't say much for white middle-class values.

Homerun Pie

Ah, the Homerun Pie. This is one of my vices. So sweet, so rich, only 25 cents, and so packed with saturated fat (8g/40%DV). So easy to grab in Ralph's on late-night grocery runs and gobble in the car. Interesting that the baseball theme doesn't rouse more negative feelings in my, given my disasterous Little League season in Lufkin. But that's for another blog, another day.

This wrapper has been parked under my monitor for over a month, waiting for its photo session and write-up. At last, it can join its friends in the county landfill.

coasting...

...or maybe skidding. Life's complexity has disallowed routine posts here lately. Once several catastrophes have passed or been averted, I'll be back in the blogosphere. Or perhaps I'll let you into the mud of my life.

I've been considering a lotus tattoo for some time, given it's buddhist significance.

Katie's Moving Up

Kudos to Katie Couric's "history-making" new job as CBS Evening News solo anchor. First a live broadcast colonoscopy, now this. I'm most thankful that to get Katie, I don't also have to get Matt Lauer's adolescent homophobia.
